SELECTIONS at Massachusetts College of Art & Design

  • Massachusetts College of Art & Design (map)

SELECTIONS features the remarkable work of MassArt professors who are newly hired or returning from sabbatical. A venue for faculty to showcase their work, often in experimental directions or media, this exhibition is a perennial favorite. Representing all facets of the college, Selectionshighlights the work of our multitalented faculty. Exploring aesthetic, sociopolitical, cultural, and design issues, faculty members have developed a diverse range of works: from an affordable water pump for subsistence farmers and important statements on social injustice to sumptuous explorations of nature, enamel self-parodies, and collaborations with young rappers who perform interventionist critiques of art museums. Works on view include site-specific installation, photography, video, sculpture, painting, and works on paper.

On View:  Rick and Laura Brown's Namassakeesett, Eastern White Pine, mild steel

Gallery Hours: Monday - Saturday: 12:00-6:00pm

The National Conference on Contemporary Cast Iron Art and Practices

The National Conference on Contemporary Cast Iron Art and Practices is pleased to announce Rick and Laura Brown as the speakers for this year's Keynote Address.

WEDNESDAY, MARCH 25 at 7PM

This National Conference on Contemporary Cast Iron Art and Practices is a biennial convergence of students, educators, academics, and professionals dedicated to exploring and advancing cast iron as an art medium. Support from this conference helps the Metal Arts Program at Sloss Furnaces National Historic Landmark preserve the history and knowledge integral to working with cast iron processes. In turn, Sloss Metal Arts provides opportunities that propagate and expand technical, aesthetic, and conceptual issues pertinent to our discipline. Collectively, this National Conference and Sloss Metal Arts create a magnetic field that helps hold our community together.

The 6 day conference offers workshops in 3D printing, mold making, powder coating/patina and more. There will also be exhibitions, panel discussions, demonstrations and performances. To see more or to register, go to slossarts.com
